DEB KLOEDEN

DEB KLOEDEN

I studied photography as part of my Fine Arts course when training to be a teacher back in the days of film. I cut my concert photography teeth shooting friends in local bands in rural Mt Gambier in my early 20s.

After years of teaching Art, Photography and Graphic Design, I decided to leave the teaching game and follow my dream of becoming a concert photographer, combining my loves of music and photography.

I have spent 8 years devoting my time to live music photography, often travelling long distances to photograph favourite artists and festivals. I am very grateful to be part of the Amnplify photography team following my true passions, music and photography.

Live music

Photography teacher, Senior Secondary High School

I have been practicing photography for nearly 50 years, mainly as a photography teacher, but only became a serious photographer myself in 2016. I studied photography at Teacher’s College, back in the days of film, when training to become a Fine Arts teacher. I had always been interested in photography and never had the opportunity to study this subject at school, so I jumped at the chance to delve into the wonderful world of the dark room.

Since leaving my job as a teacher, I have focused on developing my own skills as a photographer. Live music photography is my passion and my style has evolved over the last 6 years. I love catching the moment, whether it be action, interaction between band members, a reflective moment or stunning lighting. I tend to use strong contrast, both in colour and black & white photos, as I feel it conveys more energy. However, some of my favourite colour photos are quite soft and moody.

I specialise in live music photography, stage action. I love photographing Festivals and am now a regular at Bluesfest Byron Bay, Womadelaide, Splendour In The Grass, Queenscliff Music Festival.

Testimonials

"I follow a number of concert photographers and Deb stands out as one of the best in the country. She has an amazing eye for "the image" and her technical skills means that she actually captures it. I'm a fan."

"I love the crisp images and vibrant color as Deb recently brought her skills to a performance by my favorite band, The Cat Empire. Her artistry is evident in the expressions she captured; these band members have been photographed literally thousands of times, yet somehow, she found newly revealing views, from intimate to intense. Very satisfying to this viewer! Thank you, Deb. I hope the band's management and marketing people take note!"
Mary Parsons

"I’ve known Deb and her photography work for around a decade now, getting to first know her when she photographed my band at gigs. Since that time Deb has moved from strength to strength, making a name for herself and her work at the top level in Australia. Deb’s lifelong love of music is clearly evident in her work - managing to capture the true essence of each artist time and time again. Aside from her incredible photography and being a consummate professional in all areas Deb is just a genuinely lovely person to be around. I’m always excited to see what she captures next!"

"I have worked with Deb Kloeden now for many years at both Bluesfest Byron Bay and Womadelaide music festivals and I have to say I have never worked with anyone more professional, generous and just great to work with.  Deb's knowledge of music and photography is beyond exemplary, her photographs are beautiful and fabulous and she garners nothing but respect and friendship from all who work with her.  I can't wait to work with her again and can't wait to see what great work she comes up with next.
