Brittany Long
Brittany Long is a Melbourne live music photographer on wheels. Long has captured well-known artists including the likes of Alice Cooper, Rob Thomas, Killing Heidi, Vanessa Amorosi, The Veronicas, Hoodoo Gurus, Glass Animals, The 1975, Boyzone and British India. Long has also photographed several Australian music festivals; Beyond the Valley, A Day On The Green, Groovin the Moo, Under the Southern Stars, Dream Machine, Ability Fest, Spin Off, Wine Machine, Good Things, and at international music festival Snow Machine in Japan. Long is passionate about capturing the passion and energy of an artist onstage and freezing the atmosphere of a live show, allowing her audience to relive a concert through her photographs.
Long is also a passionate advocate for raising awareness surrounding accessibility and inclusivity in the music industry, and is currently undertaking a portrait project entitled ‘Stairing Through the Lens’. A series which involves taking portraits of musicians on stairs at music venues and festivals Australia wide, to initiate the conversation surrounding accessibility and inclusivity.
Hiding away the funds of her part-time job, Brittany saved to buy her first DSLR camera at the age of 14. Self-taught through trial and error and the mentorship of peers, photography soon became her passion. After capturing a P!NK performance from the audience at Rod Laver Arena, Brittany was struck by photography’s ability to suspend motion, breathing life into a live performance well beyond its time on stage.
Since formally opening her photography business Simply Photographz in 2017 and starting out as a family, maternity and newborn photographer Brittany has since found her niche and true passion as a music and portrait photographer.
She has gone onto capture well-known artists such as Alice Cooper, Rob Thomas, Killing Heidi, Illy, Peking Duk, Tash Sultana, and LANY. Brittany is the photographer for Melbourne based label Tomboi Records and has photographed music festivals right across Australia including the likes of Dream Machine, Wine Machine, Groovin the Moo, Good Things Festival and at international music festival, Show Machine Japan. Brittany also continues to regularly contribute to online publications, including Girl at a Rock Show and Amnplify.
In 2016, Brittany was the recipient of the Heart Project’s Young Heart mentorship program, allowing her to work closely with female mentors such as digital artists and photographer, Karen Alsop. Brittany was also nominated as a finalist in the Australian Women in Music Awards 2021 Music Photographer of the year awards and has been shortlisted for her work as part of the annual Monster Children photography competition.
She has been published in Killah Magazine, online at RedBull Australia, had her work included in the Australian photographer’s collaboration book ‘2019: A Year Before Lockdown’ and been exhibited in Melbourne Music Week’s 2020 ‘Music is aLIVE’ exhibition. She was also the recipient of Arts Access Victoria’s first music mentorship program, Music Makers in 2021, paired alongside renowned live-music photographer, Michelle Grace-Hunder.
